How it Works

The fact is that years of unprotected sun exposure, the kind that most of us had when we were younger, has resulted in the broken vessels, large pores, and brown spots that characterize older skin. Women and men commonly turn to laser dermatology services in Southern California, but often find that they want a more comprehensive treatment.

To address these concerns, we evolved an innovative treatment series in 2005 at The Medical and Skin Spa that combines the best features of our Signature Anti-aging Facial Skin Treatment with comfortable and effective high-tech laser treatments. We call this the Facial Genesis series. Built around the classic 1064 YAG laser by Cutera®, Facial Genesis is a three treatment series that produces the following benefits:

The secret to this series is the cumulative effect the procedures produce, revealing refreshed and younger looking skin.

The Procedure

Each treatment session begins with our very effective signature anti-aging facial skin treatment with dermal planing. This is a one-hour treatment that gently removes dead cells, oils, and bacteria with absolutely no discomfort. As the first step of the treatment process, dermal planing provides a deep cleansing, and prepares the skin for the subsequent steps, increasing their effectiveness.

Following this, the skin is treated with the comfortable 1064 YAG laser by Cutera in a 30 minute procedure that puts the laser energy below the skin's surface. This laser is tuned to a frequency that heats and vaporizes blood cells, lessens the appearance of broken vessels, and reduces the redness in dilated capillaries. At the same time, the laser energy stimulates collagen growth which, results in improved pore size.

The third phase of the session employs Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL. Applied to the skin in a ten minute treatment, this light energy heats the cells that hold the brown pigment and causes those cells to release the pigment.

No anesthesia or numbing medicine is required as the entire treatment is comfortable. Patients typically feel a gentle warmth from the laser and a very slight sensation from the pulsed light.

After the Procedure

At the conclusion of this procedure, and any Southern California laser skin resurfacing treatment, we typically apply sunscreen. Following that with a touch of mineral makeup, we send patients on their way. Improvement can be seen in one treatment but three treatments are necessary for a full effect.

After treatment, women and men find that their skin looks and feels refreshed. With such an easy treatment process, patients are able to fit Facial Genesis into even the busiest of schedules.
